I really want to capture a snapshot of the end of our summer, but Instagram Stories (10 second video clips that expire after 24 hours) have robbed all my motivation to blog! If you want to keep up with the often minute-by-minute clips of our days, you can find me there…I’m @daily_rebecca.
These are random phone pics, but they do show some of what we’ve been up to and I want to remember, so here we are :)
Crazy summer temps kept us inside sometimes and we all like to get crafty so we made those paper mache easter bunnies. WHAT. A. MESS. I don’t think we’ll be paper macheing anymore, but the girls had fun!
The bunnies have already been thrown away LOL
There aren’t any great ice cream parlors nearby, but we checkout out this little party store/deli place and the girls liked it. I miss Wally’s and TCBY! But we do have this incredibly rich and delicious farm fresh ice cream, so I’m not wasting away. Don’t worry, I’ll have plenty of insulation for winter!
We finally made it into DC! It’s about 40 minutes (in Saturday traffic) from our house and it’s so much more “doable” than I expected. We visited the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and had a great time!
So many food trucks lined up out front!
We drove past the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Capital Building and Washington Monument a few times before heading home. Such a fun time! I can’t wait to go back without my broken foot and walk around more to get a view of the monuments up close.
The kids and I roadtripped home to MI for a visit! We only had to stop ONCE for a potty/gas break. These kids are incredible.
This is the face of a girl who gets her hair done in MI even though she lives in MD. LOL
Also, why are those mirrors and lights so unflattering??!
My sister and brother-in-law generously hosted us while we were in town!
Drew was obsessed with this motorized car another little boy had at the park!
We HAD to make a stop at Wally’s while we were in town!
Avery’s facial expressions CRACK ME UP! This was right before our pretzel-making adventure with some other Navy Doc wives and kids :)
Again with Avery’s expression! LOL
They enjoyed the fruits of their labor and apparently Avery didn’t get her dough strand thin enough ;)
We played at a nearby park after the pretzel making. The playscape was really nice, but in this pic I was trying to capture how scenic it was. That field in the back reminded me of the Great Lawn in Central Park.
Plenty of pool time and snack breaks.
Bathing beauty :)
Giant pancake-sized mushrooms by the pool entrance!
Waiting out adult swim in the baby pool.
Elementary school open house!
Grace has cubby #4
The school library was as good a place to pose as any. #alwaysposing
Avery modeling her stylish outfit near the water feature at church. LOL
My little man :)
First day of first grade posing. HAHAHAHAHA
Gorgeous flowers from my neighbors. I had quite a few hissy fits about agreeing to water their extensive gardens while they were on vacation. If I didn’t have 3 kids and a broken foot it may have been easier to stomach over 7 hours of watering 0_o <—crazy eyes
Just a little back yard tree climbing…
Toddlers in onesies are my jam.
He would not share that steering wheel with ANYONE.
It was a super hot day, but the kids LOVE all the different parks around here.
Snuggling with my pickle in the middle :)
She smiled big for daddy on their ice cream date!
Popcorn and movie girls night!
Up close look at a compost worm…
They loved the nature walk we took a few Saturdays ago.
We found a diner! We were jamming out to some Sinatra before the jukebox unexpectedly stopped.
My handsome guys <3
Excitedly anticipating our Labor Day morning visit to Brookside Gardens. LOL
There were SO MANY turtles! They all loved watching them swim.
He wanted to push it alone SO BAD.
Say cheese!
Strike a pose. #alwaysposing
Avery’s preschool open house!
First day of Preschool posing. LOL
Mama got some new glasses! Also, that bathroom is hot salmon pink! It’s cray.
I hope your summers have been awesome and that fall weather is upon you! It’s still in the 80’s here, but I’m hoping it will cool down soon so I get inspired to put out my fall decor before it’s time to deck the halls.
You guys are my favorite. Thanks so much for following our journey!
Do you have any questions?? About our life in MD, or Andy’s journey, or anything?? If so, leave them in the comments and I’ll answer!

I hope this doesn’t sound like a creepy stalker, but I think you are fabulous. You are one of the most real people that I have ever had the pleasure of following/reading/watching. I open Instagram every day, always looking forward to your insta-stories. I am in a very similar stage of life as you, also with a military husband, and you make me feel a little less alone with my struggles. To sum up, you’re pretty great.

Oh my goodness, Amanda! This isn’t creepy stalker AT ALL! You made my day :) I really find joy in sharing stories through the blog and instagram and I’m frequently riddled with doubts about it and wonder if people think I’m an attention junkie. So when anyone feels like they connect with me and they feel less alone I’m overjoyed! That’s how I feel when I follow others online and it’s been so comforting. Thank you very much for taking the time to leave comment!!

I always love looking at your pics and reading your blogs. I always feel like I’m right in the moment and get caught up quickly. I’m happy that everything seems to be going well there. Seeing the kids grow always seems weird. I don’t know why,we all grow. Lol! Avery gone to preschool, wow! Time just flys! Can’t wait to talk to you! Love ya!
