5 Minute Avocado Chicken Lettuce Wraps

These lettuce wraps were a go-to lunch for me all summer long.

In fact, I’m not sure why I haven’t made these lately…they are SO GOOD and SO EASY!

I love that avocado is used in place of mayo.  It’s a heart-healthy way to get a nice creamy coating to your chicken salad without the guilt!  Wrapping these in lettuce instead of bread or tortillas makes them a fantastic grain-free alternative for lunch.  The crunchiness of the fresh veggies and the zesty tang of the citrus and garlic will keep you coming back for more!

You don’t have to be Paleo to love these wraps and you can wow your gluten-free friends and family with this yummy lunch option.

I’m going to include a “recipe” but they really can be made with anything you have on-hand.  If you like tons of onion…go for it!  Can’t stand tomatoes…leave ’em out!  Don’t have a lemon or lime…skip it!

Make these according to your own tastes and instinct.  I’m sure you’ll find a combo that you love :)

  6. I made this for lunch today and it was very good. I think I should have purchased butter lettuce, because they are cupped and very pliable. I used romaine, but next time. I enjoyed it as I just love avocado. Very refreshing. Trying to work out the

    • Hi Michelle, Avocado tends to get brown after about a day in the fridge, so I’d make these when you plan to eat them, or at most maybe a day ahead and press plastic wrap right into the top of the mixture (touching it) so that no air can get to the avocado.

  7. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I’m looking for grain/bread substitutes and found your site. Just a heads-up: I noticed when I clicked on the Homemade Ranch Dressing recipe on the right side of your page, there are some very strange unrelated comments there…you might want to take a look.

  11. I just made this last night and brought it for my lunch today, it is fabulous! I’m on weight-watchers and I wanted to know the nutritional info on this recipe so I can enter it in my diary? Could you let me know the Fat grams, Carbs, Fiber and Protein? I would greatly appreciate it. I need to track or I loose track of my points and I don’t want to quit now, I’m down 38lbs. lol

    • Hi Kelley, Congrats on losing 38lbs!! When I did weight watchers there were books and websites that made it easy to calculate points and such…I’d suggest you do something like that so you get accurate information since this recipe is so customizable and I don’t know the exact ingredients you used when making yours. You should be able to enter each ingredient and come up with the values you’re looking for. Best of luck on your health journey and thanks for the comment!

    • Hi Kelly I’m also on weight watchers, all you have to do is measured out 1 cup of chicken, and the half of avocado, look in your point food book it will tell how much. I’m going to make this today too. I think half avocado is 4 points weight part of the chicken may 3

  12. Today I begin the Hormone Reset Diet by Sara Gottfried, M.D. This recipe will work very well on this program. I am going to the grocery store and getting the ingredients this morning and plan to enjoy this tasty treat for lunch!!! Thanks for sharing.

  13. I make something similar to these but use pita bread as a wrap. I’ve been trying to find something to use instead of the pita and using lettuce sounds like a great idea. I take the wraps when I’m playing golf. My question is, will they be a good alternative since I need something that’s going to be easy to eat while walking the course and something that doesn’t fall apart. Also I don’t eat my lunch until about 2-3 hours after starting the game – will these still be fresh or do you think they will wilt.

    • Hi Sue, I don’t think the lettuce will wilt waiting for you to eat these on the golf course. The only issue you might run into is the avocado turning a bit brown. Maybe keeping them in a tightly sealed container in a cooler would be your best bet. Good luck! Thanks for leaving a comment :)

      • Thanks for your reply. I don’t have to worry about the avocado since my fermented veggies help to keep them from browning.

    • Tried these yesterday and loved them! I loved the avocado in it! I make a wide variety of lettuce wraps for lunch and they do well in an insulated lunch sack. A small cold pack keeps things cool if it is a hot day. To keep things tidy, I wrap each in plastic wrap and unwrap it as I eat it. I use shrimp or imitation crab in some of my variations – so keeping them cold is important. Also for eating “IN MOTION,” slices of chicken lunch meat wrapped with the lettuce leaf around the salad, instead of – or as well as, chicken chunks in the salad, would help it hold together better, and sometimes I use a toothpick to pin them closed, if the lettuce is uncooperative! Chopping things small or slicing thinly will make it easier to wrap. Also, I need to leave the onion/garlic out since I am close to people all day, so I try other things to boost the flavor and texture. Apple, water chestnuts, or chopped dried fruit or nuts. Coarsely grated or chopped carrots, bell peppers, finely sliced or chopped celery, small chunks of hard cheese (grated or processed can get “slimy,”} chopped fresh broccoli or cauliflower, cold cooked beans… If it holds still it might be an option!

  14. Tasty, filling, and energy packed. Definitely something that can keep me going through the day, and it tastes good too!!!

  15. Excellent!
Found this hours ago and had it for dinner with summer squash.
I used a “Quorn” product, meatless chicken.
Wow, we loved it, thank you…XO

  16. These where sooo delicious iam making the main recipe for the chicken avocado salad today and will add mango and instead of lettuce wrap I will use up my spinach wraps and add watercress on top hopeing for a good outcome of this

  17. I just made these for dinner,,,yummy. And pretty healthy. I added cucumber and cilantro and some slivered almonds….so easy and fast…

    • Karrie, it would really depend on what you put in them and how much. I’d suggest entering the ingredients you use into a calorie calculator like My Fitness Pal or LoseIt and that will give you the info you’re looking for :)

  18. I am going to try this out this weekend! It looks like a quick and easy thing to make and take with on a boat ride. Thank you!!

  19. This recipe looks great! I was just wondering if you don’t use it all in one serving or make doubles, how long is the mixture good in the refrigerator? Or if you freeze, would it be okay to let it thaw in a cooler from morning until lunch time, then eat? Just trying to figure out the best way to begin making this for my lunches on the road! :)

    • Hi Megan,

I’d say it’s probably only good in the fridge for a day or so as the avocado will turn brown :( I’m not sure you’d have any success freezing it but I guess you could prepare the chicken and veggies, freeze them ahead of time and mix with the avocado later! Good luck on the road! :)

  20. made these for the first time today and they were amazing. I left off tomato but added cilantro and substituted jalapeno for green pepper for heat. Needless to say these will be a regular in our lunch lineup.

  21. Hi! You can subsitute low fat tzatziki made with low fat greek yogurt for the avacado or even add it in addition. It gives the wraps a mediterranean donair type of taste.

    • yay. i’m glad you are leaving them up. there too pretty to take down just yet. just don’t tell me are going to decorate them for V. Day or Easter or anything like that. :)somehow i don’t think you would. they were perfect for Christmas ornaments. but i’m pretty sure you know where to draw the line. :)i have some willow branches in my bathroom that i leave up year round. i had some ornaments on them for a while—just a couple. now they hold some earrings. it works out kind of nice—pretty and functional.

  22. I just made these (with fresh garlic, chunky avocado, and chili flakes) . . . the simplest things really ARE the BEST. Thank you for the idea!

  23. This looks awesome! Smashed avocado freezes well, so I could even freeze the avocado part if I’m only making it for myself! I’m toying with the idea of doing the Whole 30 in January and this recipe would be perfect!
