This past Wendesday my brother came to visit. He’s sixteen now, so he can drive and he has his own car which hopefully means that he’ll come to visit more often. He made it safely, but it took him 3.5 hours to get to our house instead of the normal 1.5. Turns out he got lost, locked his keys in his car while getting directions, got back on 94 but was going west and didn’t realize it until the blue bridges near the airport! When he finally pulled in the driveway it wasn’t a moment too soon. I was completely worried…the maternal instinct in me was going crazy.
We had a great time with him! Wednesday night was our church small group meeting at our house so he got to participate in that with us. After small group a couple of our cousins came over to visit. They left around midnight, but JP and I stayed up till 3am! We were just talking and having a good time. I’m so thankful that he and I have such a good relationship. On Thursday we both slept in then had pancakes for breakfast. Then we ran a few errands, went to the mall and ended up at my sister-in-law Jennifer’s house. Jennifer, David and their kids were in Kenya with us for the year we lived there, so John spent a lot of time with their kids. He was excited to visit with them. Thursday night we went out for dinner at a Thai restaurant and then had a bonfire at home that night.
Friday was lots of fun! John and I went for a long bike ride around the neighborhood, stopping at several of the local playgrounds. We went on the swings and got going so high that it scared us! We climbed on the playscapes and just had a ball being kids again. He’s only 16, so it probably wasn’t that far removed from the ordinary for him, but I can’t remember the last time I played like that. I came home feeling refreshed physically and emotionally. I highly recommend it!
