It’s Friday!
While this day doesn’t hold quite the same level of excitement that it did when I was working, there’s still something about it that’s different from all the other days.
Standing on the edge of the week, peering out over the weekend, brings a sense of anticipation.
Family time, relaxed schedules, church and rest all await us in the next 48 hours.
For our family, weekends are particularly special because the man of the house is around a little more.
Today I’m thankful for Friday nights.
In many ways, I’ve always loved Friday nights more than Saturday or Sunday because the weekend is all still stretched out before me. The clock hasn’t started ticking yet. The free time is all ahead of me, yet the busyness of the week is all behind me.
It’s hard to explain, but Friday nights have always felt so free. Like there is a wide open prairie stretching out in front of me. Saturday and Sunday are still TBD. The plans haven’t started. The countdown to Monday morning seems temporarily on hold. It’s a sweet spot in the week where the possibilities seem endless.
These days, Friday nights most often mean that Andy is going to take a break from his rigorous study schedule to hang out and play with us. We particularly enjoy dinner together knowing that he’s not going to head up to his office afterward to study the night away. We’ll often rent a couple of movies and hunker down on the couch together. We catch up on our weeks while Grace entertains us with her silly antics.
It’s like we have Daddy back for a little while and we soak up the time like its liquid gold.
Saturday mornings usually mean hot breakfast together and more play time until Andy heads off for some study time or to the lab at school. Just the simple act of eating a leisurely breakfast together is so much more special than it’s ever been because we don’t always get to do it anymore. Sundays are the same. We head off to church together and stop for fresh bagels on the way home. After brunch we laze around until Grace’s nap time when Andy and I usually cuddle up to read or nap together. The together time is so wonderful, especially after a long week of not having much of it.
So, Grace and I are running a few errands and cleaning the house today in anticipation of nachos for dinner and fun time with daddy tonight!
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
