Here’s one pair I bought. It’s the first one…the ivory one.
dishing up a little bit of everything
So I have to make a confession…while most people were caught up in thoughts of gratitude and rememberance on Monday in celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.– I was shoe shopping. That’s not to say that I didn’t take any time to reflect on the significance of Dr. King’s life and work, but I didn’t exactly dwell on it as long as others might have.
Sunday morning at church, we had visitors from another congregation and their pastor and ours gave a joint message. A couple of video clips were also shown and they contained excerpts from Dr. King’s life and famous “I Have A Dream” speech. I think that I realized the significance of his life’s work more that morning than I have in past years. Growing up in Detroit, and having attended and worked at Wayne State University have allowed me to take notice of this great man’s birthday for the past decade or so. However, sadly enough, I am usually more excited about the long weekend than I am about the civil rights movement. It seems to be one of those things that I, and so many others in my generation, tend to take for granted. So much of the strife and conflict surrounding that issue came to a head before our time. That is not to say that it isn’t still an issue or that it won’t continue to be, but many of us don’t give it much thought unless we come face to face with a racially charged incident. I’m sure there are as many opinions on this matter as there are people in the world.
All debating aside…Monday was my precious day off. The glimmer of hope that exists between my Christmas Break and our annual family trip to South Carolina in May. I was sure not to sleep the day away, so I got up before 10am. Still sleeping in, but not missing Ellen. I love that show. She is so funny and non-traditional in the ways she interacts with her guests. For example, she simulated flying with Kate Winslet against a green screen, competed with Ray Romano to get a hole in one on a mini putting green and rode bikes around the studio with Robin Williams! It’s not your typical talk show. After Ellen I watched The View, which I also love. Then I decided to shower, get dressed and head out to shoe shop.
I first stopped at the Village Shoe Inn on Kelly where they had a half off sale, but I didn’t find anything that I couldn’t live without so I headed over to Marshall fields where I found tons of shoes on the clearance racks! I dug through shoe after shoe and finally found an adorable pair of ivory leather mules with an adorable heel that were originally $70 but marked down to $17!!! They will go perfectly with the pink tweed skirt Andy got me for Christmas, so I absolutely couldn’t pass them up! I also found a pair of sexy black patent leather with black and white tweed heels that were originally $90 but were marked down to $25! Needless to say, I grabbed both pairs and headed out there delighted with my fun new purchases!
I’m actually doing what I resolved to do this year! I’m eating better, working out regularly and losing weight! I’m actually down 5lbs! I thought I had lost 2lbs as of yesterday. I wasn’t thrilled because I, like so many others in America, am addicted to instant gratification. I want it my way right away. Didn’t that used to be a Burger King slogan? Whatever. I’m down 5lbs! Who cares about Burger King!
