Fall is fast approaching and the evenings are getting darker and darker. Perfect for cuddling up on the couch with a cup of hot tea and a tasty dessert while you watch your favorite shows.
When you’re eating clean, you tend to crave foods that are good for you. Big, crispy salads have never tasted so good! You love your morning eggs and veggies and happily chug ice water throughout the day.
But sometimes you still have a sweet tooth…
That’s where these come in!
They literally take a couple of minutes to put together and they taste rich and decadent while still packing a nutritional punch!
Dates: naturally rich in fiber, antioxidants, iron and potassium
Almonds: great source of manganese, vitamin E and magnesium
Cinnamon: excellent source of manganese and known to help control blood sugar and improve colon health
These tasty treats are a triple threat!
You only need 3 things…
Putting them together is a cinch…
You take a small knife and slice the date open lengthwise. Remove the little pit and fill the center with almond butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and voila! A tasty, sweet treat in only seconds.
If you’re wondering where to get dates, I usually find them near the bananas at my grocery store (Kroger) and I know that Whole Foods carries them in bulk bins where you can buy exactly as many as you’d like.
Medjool dates are pictured here because they are especially delicious and generally bigger than “regular” dates and wonderfully chewy. I think they mimic a carmel texture which is divine!
If you’re creeped out by dates or don’t like raisins and you think this is just a giant raisin…you’re mistaken! These are mild and sweet and totally worth a try.
A word of caution…although these are made up of good, whole foods, they are still a treat. If you are eating clean to lose weight, you still have to be careful about the quantity of rich, sweet and fatty foods. Even the healthy ones!
One date stuffed with a tablespoon of almond butter weigh in at approximately 165 calories. Just a little FYI :)
