Arctic blasts continue to pummel the state of Michigan.
We’ve had snow upon snow upon frigid subzero temperatures.
I’ve never been a cold person.
I’m generally hot all.the.time.
Like unload the dishwasher and work up a full body sweat.
Like bring in the groceries and need to wipe the sweat stache from my upper lip.
Like blast the air conditioning in the car on the way to church year round because I’ve worked up such a sweaty frenzie getting showered and dressed.
That kind of hot.
But this year?
I’m cold down to my bones.
Always wearing a sweatshirt. Always covered in a blanket. Searching out socks and slippers and heating vents.
Consistently wearing a fleece bathrobe on TOP of my flannel pajamas.
That kind of cold.
To say I’m over it would be the understatement of the year.
But I digress…
Today we were Frozen in a good way!
Grace had her first ever movie theater experience!
Andy had an exam this morning and texted me at lunch time to let me know he’d be home early and that he thought Grace and I should go to the movies while he stayed home with Avery.
I really really wanted to take her over Christmas break, but we were sick upon sick so it never happened. I was kind of thinking we would miss our chance to see Frozen in theaters by the time I could figure out how to make it work.
Andy to the rescue!
I sent him a resounding YES! and got Grace’s lunch together in a hurry.
We braved the icy roads and made it safely to a local theater. She was impressed from the moment we pulled up to the building.
“It’s red! Grandma’s favorite color!”
The awe continued when we went inside and got our first whiff of the buttery popcorn.
A friendly older gentlemen was working the ticket counter and guessed immediately what we were there to see. He handed Grace the tickets when they popped up, and we were on our way to look around.
This theater used to have a bunch of fun stuff to look at, but it’s pretty bare bones these days so we “admired” the video games and then hit up the bathrooms before making our way to the concession stand to pick out our snacks.
The bathroom sinks were lit with a long stretch of recessed red lighting that Grace was very impressed with!
As soon as she saw the row of red glowing sinks, she dramatically exclaimed, “Oh it’s so beautiful! This place is so fancy!”
I cracked up and was so happy to see her enjoying herself. The little things children appreciate absolutely warm my heart.
A quick potty break and a few selfies later, we were on our way to the concession stand.
Most of the pictures are blurry because my sweet little girl could hardly sit still she was so excited :)
Grace has a serious thing for slushies. We get one almost every week after ballet class because we drive right past a 7-11 and I’ve yet to get as much bang for $1.29 as I do when I buy her a small blue raspberry slurpee.
I know it’s basically a cup of dye and high fructose corn syrup, but sometimes you have to live a little…
and give her extra veggies at dinner in an attempt to compensate for it :)
We decided on the popcorn/icee combo and both of our eyeballs nearly popped out when they gave us a grocery bag sized popcorn and liter of blue icee.
Whoops.
Guess we should have looked a little closer at the kids combo…LOL.
She didn’t mind the mega sized snacks and to be honest neither did I!
After watching what felt like a million and one previews, the lights dimmed and the movie started.
Right away Grace asked if we could cuddle, so I grabbed her out of her seat and pulled her onto my lap. We found a comfortable and cozy position and snuggled the whole movie through.
Sniffing her hair and feeling her warm back pressed against me was so precious. I can’t believe my little baby is a big girl now. I treasured every minute of our snuggle session…
well almost every minute.
I somehow dozed off for a few minutes during the climax of the movie! Loud musical score and treacherous snow storms were no match for this sleepy mama who stayed up too late last night!
As usual, Disney did a fantastic job and the movie was awesome. Gorgeous animation, plenty of humor for the adults, pretty princesses for the little girls, and a really beautiful message to wrap it all up.
It was a day I won’t soon forget :)
Love her expression in that first picture! And her comment – “This place is so fancy!” So precious! My daughter’s favorite thing is to say lately is, “I love (fill in the blank).” It’s so fun to hear their vocabulary grow,and the cute things they say.
Awww sooo cute….I love how Grace found the restroom so “fancy” ..it is so adorable when kids use cute little words like that at such an appropriate time. :) Sounds like you had a blast! Just reading your post I could feel that warm fuzzy feeling that you get when you are spending one on one time with your precious gift.. So cool!
