Today is my dear friend Carrie’s birthday. She and I go WAY back! My family met Carrie ages ago at Grace Community Church when my parents were in her mini-church. Shortly after that time, I started attending the youth group at Grace and Carrie became my small group leader. She was an awesome group leader! I remember going out for ice cream with her, trekking out to Ann Arbor to walk around the U of M campus and shop at the mall (I got this awesome white dress with pink roses all over it…I LOVED that dress and wore it a million times – remembering the fun we had each time I had it on) and I remember feeling very comfortable to talk with her and share my feelings.
Long after I was out of the youth group, Carrie kept up with me. She’s been a wonderful, supportive and encouraging part of my life that I truly treasure…
When I came home from Kenya and was figuring out where I would live to finish out my time at WSU, the opportunity arose to live with Carrie and another girl (until the other girl freaked out and moved suddenly!). I jumped at the chance to be roomies with my dear friend. I have heard many horror stories about roommates from hell, but I had such an opposite experience! Carrie was a joy to live with! She was fun to hang out with and watch TV or just talk, she wasn’t messy, yet she could handle the fact that I tended to be, she was flexible about me hauling all my stuff into the house and creating a shrine to Kenya on the fireplace mantel, she looked out for me, but didn’t give me grief when I came home in the wee hours of the night…she was just perfect to live with and I often miss our times together.
Happy Birthday Carrie…I love you!
