Last week Andy and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. It’s crazy that it has already been 4 years and also that it has only been 4 years!
Our actual anniversary date is July 26, but we decided to celebrate on Friday night instead so we could stay up late. Andy conjured up a plan and just told me to go along with it. I really appreciated that since I’m often the one coming up with the plan.
We both came home from work on Friday night, got ready, and headed out. We started driving downtown and I began trying to figure out where we were going. I guessed Niki’s since that’s where we ate on our wedding night, but that wasn’t it. Then I guessed Mosaic since we had eaten a fabulous meal there once, but that wasn’t it either. I figured I would just wait and see.
We got down there and were able to park in the Blue Cross parking structure which was awesome since it’s so tough to find a spot anywhere else. Then we walked over to the main Greektown strip. We stopped halfway down the street and Andy began looking around. It seemed as though he didn’t see what he was expecting. I asked him if he was looking for the Blue Nile and, with an i-can’t-believe-you-always-figure-out-what-i -try-to-surprise-you-with-look on his face, he admitted that was it. Unfortunately, the Blue Nile moved from Greektown to Ferndale over 3 years ago!
He thought the Blue Nile would have been perfect since we hadn’t been there before, and the website he checked out boasted that it was a “unique bonding experience” to feast with your hands on the Ethiopian fare. I felt bad that his plan fell apart, but I was more than willing to eat Greek food instead! We chose to eat at Pegasus since we hadn’t eaten there together before. The atmosphere was really nice…the ceiling was adorned with trellises covered with vines and twinkle lights, the smells were wonderful and there was Greek music playing in the background.
We feasted on Saginaki, Greek wine, lamb, spinach pie, and about 3 other scrumptious Greek dishes that I can’t spell or pronounce!
Our conversation was great too. Andy thought of a bunch of fun conversational questions ahead of time that covered everything from childhood memories to secret fantasy careers. It was a wonderful dinner..
After that, we rolled out (I felt like I was full enough to literally roll!) onto the street to figure out what to do next. Somehow we decided to go over to the Casino for a bit, so we got our id’s swiped and headed into the colorful, smoke filled, grown-up carnival land that was the casino and wandered around for a little while. We quickly decided it would be fun to play the slots, so we picked a few different quarter slots and ended up winning about $100! I was so surprised that we had won anything, let alone enough money to cover our dinner and gambling!
I was SOOO full, that we decided to cash out and head home to watch a movie, but on our way home we stopped for gas. A bunch of teenagers were there gassing up to go out for the night, and there we were at 9:30, gassing up to go home! Talk about feeling old!
All in all it was a great night, and free to boot!
