As probably detected in my “Oh, how I love Thanksgiving” post…I am a sucker for the holidays. I love this time of year when Christmas is just around the corner. Houses are all lit up with twinkling lights, two local radio stations are playing only Christmas tunes, stores are decked out with garlands and holiday displays, work doesn’t seem so bad because the holiday recess is almost upon us, and if we’re lucky there is a light dusting of snow on the ground (hopefully the preview of a White Christmas). However, the holidays definitely come with their share of dsyFUNction.
Last night my stepgrandma had her annual holiday open house. In the past I looked forward to this event as a time to dress up and eat lots of yummy shrimp. The past few years, however, it has become more of a dread than anything else. There are tons of people I either don’t know or don’t know well enough to have good conversation with. It’s always hot and there’s hardly anywhere to sit down. My grandma is always stressed out and cranky, which makes me wonder why she even has the stupid party! Fortunately, my asthma started acting up really bad, so we had to leave at 6pm. I think that’s probably the ONLY advantage to being allergic to animals!
Then, we got home and had a huge fiasco with my in-laws. I just wish they could all communicate more honestly with one another. I mean they are siblings for crying out loud! Andy did an amazing job of taking the bull by the horns and forcing everyone to be more honest. I’m so proud of him…I know he doesn’t like conflict, but he handled it perfectly.
I cannot wait to go home and bake Christmas cookies tonight!
