I just started a new book yesterday. It’s called The New Tolerance and it’s written by Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler. The subtitle reads, “How a cultural movement threatens to destroy you, your faith and your children.” Sounds pretty intense, but I believe it conveys a very important truth that most people are totally oblivious to. It’s ironic that I just happened to get this book since I just recently visited a great blog: where I read an entry on this very topic. I’ve just begun reading this book, but I’m already outraged to learn of the following scenarios:
Fourth grader Raymond Raines made the mistake of bowing his head over his lunch to whisper a silent prayer. That act, however, resulted in a trip to the principal’s office and a warning that if he tried to pray again–even silently–he would be disciplined * Chuck Colson, “Facilitating Faith (Do We Need a Prayer Ammendment?),” BreakPoint, 8 February 1995.
A similar incident occured in Selkirk, New York, when a third-grade teacher stopped a child from reading the Bible in her free time. The crying child was threatened and told never to bring the forbidden book to school again. *Brannon Howse, “The People and the Agenda of Multicultural Education,” Understanding the Times (January 1997) :3
It seems as though our freedom is being yanked from beneath us “Houdini style” and most people are completely unaware.
Diogenes says
Thanks for the “props.” At the end of all of our studies on the moral, intellectual, and philosophical decay around us; what should be our response? It is so innervating to hear these anecdotal stories of childrens rights being censured, and their minds being polluted, and especially so when we know that these stories are not isolated incidents, but rather mere bubbles rising to the top of a soon to boil cauldron. Hang in there…be the salt that slows the decay! We are the generation that God sees fit to trust with such an important task…keep reading, praying and acting!
